Language Proficiency (FLPE)

Foreign Language Proficiency Examinations (FLPE)

UF students may use the FLPE to prove proficiency in a foreign language and thus achieve an exemption from a foreign language requirement.  (See “Degree and Graduation Policies” in Undergraduate Catalog for UF’s Foreign Language Requirement.)  Among others, UF uses BYU’s FLATS exams for proficiency purposes.  The total cost for the proficiency exam (exam plus proctoring fee) is $80.   UF does not grant credit for BYU tests; instead your foreign language requirement will be waived if your score meets the required level for your college.

Testing Dates

FLATS Zoom testing is now available through our center.  Times and dates are available when you pay your proctor fee on step 2.  You are required to have a microphone and a video camera.

Please Note:

  • Students cannot retake the same Foreign Language Proficiency test within a 6-month period. Doing so will invalidate both scores.  Taking the proficiency test for a different language within a 6-month period is not a problem.
